Nutritional Advice

All foods and medicines we take into our bodies have an effect on how they work. By following certain rules with foods we can actually have a very positive impact on our internal health. The digestive system can be affected in different ways by foods. Too much hot spicy food will introduce heat into your system leading to increased appetite. Too much cold or raw foods will slow down your digestion and metabolism, meaning food will take longer to absorb and stay in your system longer. Damp natured foods will block the flow of energy in your body, again slowing the metabolism and leading to physical and mental lethargy.

A healthy diet should be varied and balanced, so it is ok to have foods of different natures as long as they do not make up too much of your daily intake. In Hypnopuncture we want you to introduce sensible eating into your life which you will be able to continue long after you reach your desired weight. Below is a summary of how various kinds of foods impact on your health.

Although vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet it is best to reduce certain types: Cabbage, Sprouts, Parsnip, Turnip, Coleslaw and try not to eat too many raw vegetables.

Dairy Products are all very damp in nature, it is best to avoid them as much as possible as they will really slow the energetic systems of your body: Milk, Cheese, Cream, Butter.

Some fruits can slow the digestion and the more acidic fruits are seen as more damp and it is best not to have them too often while on the Hypnopuncture programme: Oranges, Lemons, Strawberries, Mango, Banana and Pineapple. Juices and smoothies are a good way to get your five a day but can be very highly concentrated so try to reduce their intake or dilute them slightly.

Hot spicy foods will affect the stomach and eaten too frequently can actually lead to an increase in appetite. So try to avoid too much curry, chilli and strong spicy foods. Alcohol will also introduce a lot of heat into your body as well as large amounts of calories, so reducing alcohol intake can have a real impact on your daily intake.

Increasing the amount of protein in your diet can be very beneficial but be careful not to increase your fat intake with it. A more protein based system will burn energy at a faster rate boosting the metabolism and energy levels.

To help promote the circulation of energy and disperse the dampness in your body dark green leaf vegetables are best: spinach, watercress, spring greens.
